1630s-Shivian and Gargainian Invasion

In 1629, the Alkahoon and Shadows were alarmed as the Shivians launched an assault from Ferdern and Javelin Islands and took the Thalassan coast. The Alkahoon were preparing a response when the Shadows brutally shut down Shivian control. There were diplomatic arguments as the Alkahoon and Bhukha watched nervously. Diplomacy broke down, the Shadows and Iraicci forces pushed into the Bhukha, pissing off the Alkahoons, and alarming the unstable Shivians. The Shadows promised the Alkahoons that this was only until the Shivians retreated, but no one believed them. The Shivians surprised the world, in 1641, by pushing the Shadows out of the Bhukha, but had to deal with a rear attack by the Alkahoons.

The Shadows realized they had to live with the Shivians in the desert and retreated because of problems in the Sundara and Kacharias and with the Gargainians. The Gargainians, as predicted, had control over most of the Atamik Mountains and threatened the Shadow possessions in the Saya Gardens. Meanwhile the Kacharias and Sundarans were asking for more representation while the Iraicci were trying to solidify their own control behind the Shadows backs. The Shadows did not appreciate this and used the surprise death of an heirless Iraicci king to trade rulers. As a compromise, the Shadows gave control over the military to an Iraicci commander (but all other officers remained Shadows), gave control over tax collection to a Kacharias (the overall treasurer was a Shadow) and returned the Sundarans to the throne. It wasn’t a great compromise, but it would do. Now that the Shadows had taken care of that problem, they turned to face the Gargainians, who had invaded the Saya Gardens.

The Shadows defeated the Gargainians in the desert in 1649 and invaded Gargain in 1651. They conquered Gargain in 1654, leaving the Church alone, understanding that attacking the church would unite the rest of the world against them. The Shivians were stunned that they were surrounded by Shadow controlled territories. They made peace with the Alkahoon kingdom and planned on what to do about the Shadows. The Shadows, wanting the Shivians out of the desert, made an alliance with the Alkahoon, promising to respect their territory and offered them a similar deal they offered the Iraicci. The Shadows sponsored Bhukha terrorism. It was the first time the Shivians experienced a terrorist attack (although everyone falsely believed it was with the Ilkhatal)

The Shivians spent 1668-1700 putting down Indarium revolts while blaming the Shadows at the Conference of Risina for supporting these outbreaks.
