Sean Leland

Name: Sean Leland

Birth date: Sheeta 01, 1802

Age as of 1826:24

Race: Ilkhatal/Killer

History:

Sean was a late convert to the IFM, it seems he was recruited by his wife, Margaret Leland, but when he finally joined he was their best financial officer. Little is known about his origins, but his father seemed to have been a comptroller for the Shivian army, the rare Killer that felt at home with the Shivians, which may have been where Sean received some of his mathematical skills. It would also explain why Sean buried his past, burning most of his letters and diary entries that had to do with his youth. There are some historians who believe that Leland is an adopted name as well. At the age of sixteen, Sean left his hometown and moved to Pittsmoreland, where he served as a waiter at a Shivian owned but Killer run restaurant.

Sean met Margaret as the young woman tried to escape pursuing Shivian policemen. According to a letter in which Margaret related the adventure to one of her friends, "I realized I couldn't out run them, so I turned a corner, grabbed the first Killer I saw, shoved him up against the doorway of a nearby building, and made out with him. Thank Amal it was a man otherwise I would have drawn more attention to myself than desired." We do not have Sean's recordings on the incident, but it certainly made an impression on the young Killer. They met numerous times after that and Margaret eventually convinced Sean to join the IFM. We are not sure how, but after Marcus Galloway and Kerry McNair reorganized the movement, Sean was
named financial expert and tasked with raising the funds needed to buy arms from the Korens and independent Shadow merchants.

"Marcus and the cause gave us a purpose, a reason to live and die. Margaret and I want a family, but we want freedom more. That's why we joined the IFM. To win our future children their liberty."
Sean quickly realized that fleecing their own people for funds was counterproductive, so, with Kerry's help, he stationed a number of Killers in banks in Shiva and, for every transaction the Shivians made, these Killers would take a small percentage and send it to the Killbraugha. These percentages were small enough not to warrant a full investigation by the banks, but big enough that banks would be afraid of raising the alarm because they were always wary of a run on the banks. It was a complicated system and rather impressive considering the Shivians never fully knew what was going on. With Margaret's help, he also established connections with the Fathers of Liberty, a Killer freedom movement in Ferdern. This organization smuggled hundreds of thousands of pinta for the IFM and, later the KLA.

Marcus married Sean and Margaret in 1824 and in 1826 Margaret was pregnant. It seems that Kerry and Marcus both agreed that it would be safer for the Leland family if they moved to Shiva and it would also ensure that Sean could keep a closer eye on the bank transactions. It is said that Marcus and Siegfried Von Hult were also meeting around this time and Marcus may have wanted Sean to join the KLA to keep an eye on them and study them.
