1700s-Preparation for the First Shadow War

From 1713-1742 the Shivians waged war against the Alkahoon while the Shadows supported the Alkahoon by threatening the Shivians from the Gargainian border. However, the Shivians were able to utilize the centuries old rivalry between the twelve tribes to shatter their ancient empire, leaving nothing behind but squabbling tribes. In 1757, the Shivians defeated the Shadow invasion and the Shadows consolidated their Gargainian border. They focused on funding terrorism in each other’s empires.

In 1761, the Shivians crushed an Indarium rebellion centered on Findé. From 1769-1774 a Druid leader inspired a rebellion in Gargain and along the Atamik Mountains. It was crushed by the Shadows.

In 1793, Shadow and Shivian forces clashed, but it was quickly settled diplomatically. From 1795-1801 the Shadows continued their support of terrorists in the Shivian territories. The Shivians also sponsored terrorism and in 1802, a Shadow ambassador was murdered in Shivian controlled Alkahoon province.

1803-1808 the First Shadow War

The First Shadow was mostly fought in the Ignis Desert, Rubicon, and Gargain. In 1806, the Shadows tried to invade through the Killbraugha which was why Trippé happens. But the majority of the war was fought in those three locations and the sea. This was why Rubicon and Gargain fell into civil wars and the Ignis was on the edge of a knife. The war destroyed the Shadow Empire, forcing all Shadows and Shadow descendants out of the desert and back into Paradise (even if it’s been centuries since their families have been to Paradise). This massive exodus was just one other thing that weakened Philip’s reign.

The First Shadow War lasted from 1803-1808 and there was a brutal war across the desert. The Shivians lied to the remains of the Alkahoon and Bhukha empires by promising them certain countries and rights. They united and fought against the Sundarans. The Shadows won the coastal wars, but the Shivians won the land and were aided by the Atamik Mountains and the rebelling Druids. This included Kasparov’s Riders. They were a special guerilla unit put together during the First Shadow War by Avraham Kasparov to protect Atamik autonomy. It was officially supported by the Shivian government and had volunteers from the Kanas Mountains, Gargain, Rubicon, and even the Black Forest. Reginald Balfour’s unit was a cavalry regiment sent into the Atamik to establish contact with the Riders and then coordinate attacks between Shiva’s army and Kasparov’s men. They wreaked havoc from 1805-1807 when they were finally tracked down and either killed or captured by a Shadow division. The Shadows spared the Ferdarian, Gargoyle, Feline, Koren, and Shivian foreign fighters but brutally put to death the Indariums and Gargainians.  The surviving Indariums and Gargainians dispersed, becoming tribal leaders in the Atamik or returning to Gargain and partaking in the civil war

When the war was over, the Sundaran army was destroyed as was their bureaucratic system, but the Shivians kept the royal family so he could keep this strange new country whole. However, the Shivians could not wipe out the Shadow influence and the Sundarans had grown too independent to be controlled any longer. They missed the times of being full citizens.

After the war the Shivians practiced an iron-handed rule over the Alkahoon and tried to figure out what to do with the remains of the Sundaran Empire. They decided to keep the Shadow structure, but placed it completely in Shivian control, leaving only a Sundaran King. The Iraicci (who enjoyed controlling the army) were pissed that military affairs have been taken from them and Kacharias (who enriched themselves by pocketing a lot of the tax income) were furious to lose a bountiful income.

So, the Shivians were being stonewalled in the Sundaran Empire which was a powder keg right now. The Iraicci tribes, having been trained by Shadows, trusted by Shadows, and many feeling that Death was the mother of Arachnids, thought they could take on the Shivians. The Kacharias, without Shadow control, turned into heavy piracy and took their income from Shivian ships despite brutal punishments, and the Sundarans were being ruled by a young, inexperienced, but strong king, Khalid, who knows they are more powerful than the Shivians were willing to give them credit for.

Meanwhile the many tribes in the Alkahoon are in full out revolt, taking lead from the budding KLA and IFM movements in Shiva and the Killbraugha. It gets so bad, that the Shivians send Bernard Griffin into the Wallegh desert where he starts his career and reign of terror.

The Sundara is ruled by an old king Hamun Al-Mansur. He was born in 1780. The Shadow War 1803-1808. Al-Mansur was 23 when the war started. He was the king at the time and was surrounded by Shadow administrators as well as corrupted Indariums who pushed him into war. At first the war is going well for the Sundarans and the Shadows and Al-Mansur wins many battle honors, but, even though the Shadows rule the seas, the Shivians rule the desert and they are assisted by the rebelling Druids in Gargain and the Atamik Mountain range. The Shadows lose and formally surrender all of their territory to the Shivians. Al-Mansur rejects these terms and threatens war if he and his family is not kept in control of the Sundara. The Shivians (having to deal with rebelling Indariums in the old Alkahoon and Bhukha countries) agree and Al-Mansur is able to groom his oldest, Khalid, for the throne. Al-Mansur had many children during this time period, but also suffer numerous tragedies. The first tragedy was his second son-Dawud-dying from an arachnid in 1810. Then the flu took Al-Hamid, Fadl, Ghaseem, Aisha, and his favorite wife, Parisha attempted suicide while she was pregnant and only Sargon was saved.
