Dara Troy
Name: Dara Troy
Birth date: Safree 5th, 1799 Age as of 1826: 21 Race: Shivian History: Dara was born to a Shivian major who distinguished himself during the First Shadow War only to die in a munitions accident a month after the Shadow War ended. Dara's mother remarried and had his younger step-brother, Kenneth in 1810. Dara did not get along with his step-father and often ended the day in a number of bruises. Despite the fact that Kenneth was obviously their father's favorite, Dara held no hard feelings against his step-brother. In order to encourage relations between her new husband and her eldest son, she send Dara to one of Shiva's best prep schools. Dara excelled in rhetoric and literature, but surprised everyone by volunteering with a new unit being sent to the Ignis Desert. Dara explained his reasoning in a letter to his mother, "How can I rightfully call myself my father's son if I do not serve in a war when I had a chance?" He spent a year training in Shiva before being sent to the desert in 1824. He arrived just in time to take part of the Siege of Montezello-in which the Shivians destroyed the self-proclaimed Sultan Omar II and shattered what little order there was in the desert. It would take another five years for the Indariums to form that kind of organization again. Dara spent most of his time in the desert chasing after Indarium extremists and trying to restore Shivian order to the Ignis. Dara was astonished to hear about the Killer-Shivian War and was disgusted by Siegfried's Day. He wrote many letters to his mother and step-brother decrying the Killers and demanding why the Shivian government did not do more to address the Killer problem? His youthful letters are in stark contrast to his views once he became president of Shiva and many historians argue that this is because of Killer representative Peter Hooks' efforts. Dara spent the next seven years in the Ignis, fighting back the new Indarium effort to resist Shivian rule and won many medals for bravery and accolades. He even managed to get his name in the paper by leading a twenty-five men expedition against an Indarium strong hold and succeeded in his mission with only a lost of five men-two wounded, three killed. In 1831, Dara came down with Spider Fever and was taken from the desert, his commander thinking it would be better if he died on Shivian soil as oppose to Indarium sand. Dara fought against the disease for many months before finally making a full recovery. While Dara survived, he carried the mark of the disease with him for the rest of his life and there were moments when it would return, incapacitating him for days at a time. |
"I hate the god damn Ferdarians. They come here, thinking we should be grateful for their assistance in suppressing the Indariums, when it is Shivian blood that has been split and Shivian blood that has finally brought peace to the Ignis." |
He surprised everyone again, by asking his step-brother, Kenneth-a Unionist representative in the Chambers-to help him enter the political arena. Dara ran his first campaign in 1837 and barely defeated a Plumet opponent. While in the Chambers, he was a strong proponent of the Ignis War (although he seemed to resent Ferdarian aide after years of fighting alone in the desert), but was also pro-Killer. Many historian postulate this is because Peter Hooks went out of his way of winning Dara over. Dara and Peter certainly worked well together as the years passed and greatly improve the Killer position in Shiva. Dara also controlled a well-meaning, but erratic Kenneth and helped strengthen the Unionist position in Shivian politicians. Dara got along well with most people, but he detested the Plumet representative, Sebastian Wallace, and did his best to avoid him. Dara also tried to speak with the Killbraugha Chief of Police, Bernard Griffin, to get a better idea of how Shivian strategy was working in the Hills. Dara's nomination for president was hardly surprising, but Shivian society was shocked when he agreed to having Shadow Ambassador, Damon Glasgow, oversee peace negotiations with the KLA. It seems that Dara was earnest about Killer reform, but finally succumbed to the Spider Fever in 1848.
